The device was detonated in the distance while the Hamas politburo leader was in his room.

The bomb was hidden about two months ago in a guesthouse where Haniyeh usually stayed during his stay in Tehran. The device was detonated from a distance while he was in his room.

Despite claims by the Iranian government and Hamas that Israel was behind the killing, Jerusalem has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement, CNN reports. The source said the US learned of Israel's operation only after it had been carried out.
