The poll was conducted on September 11-12, 2024, and included 4,262 respondents, 97% of whom are Israeli citizens and 91% of whom currently reside in the country. It reflected political preferences: 72% of respondents identify as right-wing or center-right, 9% as left-wing or center-left, and 19% found it difficult to determine.

Most respondents (60%) consider the United States a friend of Israel, an improvement from 47% eight years ago. Only 1% see the United States as an enemy. 64% of respondents have a positive view of the United States personally, and 47% said they have a positive view of Americans but a negative view of the current U.S. government.

Russia is Israel's enemy

65% of participants consider Ukraine to be “neither a friend nor an enemy” of Israel, while 22% call it a friend and 11% an enemy. Personal attitudes toward Ukraine are positive for 45% of respondents, 40% remain neutral, and only 14% claim to have a negative attitude toward the Ukrainian government, but not toward its people.

Israel and military conflicts between other countries

55% of respondents believe that Israel should support Ukraine in its war with Russia, and only 2% think that Israel should support Russia. The issue of imposing sanctions on Russia received support from 44% of participants, compared with 39% two years ago.

Israelis' attitudes toward the United States and Russia in the context of political preferences

51% of respondents disagree with the statement that the Israeli right is more pro-Russian than the left, while only 17% support this view. Also, 38% disagree with the statement that the Israeli left is more pro-American than the right, while 30% agree.

The majority (82%) of leftists and center-leftists call the United States a friend of Israel, as do 56% of rightists and center-rightists. At the same time, 69% of leftists/center-leftists and 64% of rightists/center-rightists have a personally positive attitude towards the United States. In terms of attitudes towards Russia, 69% of leftists and 73% of rightists call it an enemy of Israel, while 81% of leftists and 75% of rightists express a negative attitude towards the Russian Federation.

Israel and US leaders

When respondents were asked which of the two US presidents is a great friend of Israel, 68% said Donald Trump, while only 9% said Joe Biden. On the “left,” opinions were divided: 35% chose Trump, while 35% chose Biden. On the “right,” 78% supported Trump, while 5% supported Biden.

When asked which of the presidential candidates, Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, is a friend of Israel, 76% said Trump and 6% said Harris. Interestingly, among the “left” 44% chose Trump and 27% said Harris, while among the “right” 85% supported Trump and only 3% said Harris.

Reasons for hostility towards Israel

Among the reasons for hostility towards Israel, respondents most often named:

  • anti-Semitism (84%);
  • weak explanatory work by Israel (59%);
  • low diplomatic activity of Israel (46%);
  • currying favor with Muslim and Arab countries (40%);
  • the war in Gaza (39%).

With whom to strengthen relationships?

Most respondents believe that Israel needs to strengthen relations with:

  • EU countries (70%);
  • neighboring countries that do not consider Israel a hostile state (Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus) – 61%.

Trust in the media

Trust in American media turned out to be higher than in Russian media. 29% of survey participants said that they trust American media to some extent, and only 3% said that they trust Russian media. The majority of respondents also confirmed that they noticed attempts by pro-Russian forces to influence public opinion through the media and social networks – 52%.

The US and Russia in Light of the War in Israel

86% of respondents agreed that the Russian government is interested in continuing the war in Israel, while only 13% think the same about the US. 70% believe that the US is doing more to free hostages held by terrorists in Gaza, while less than 2% believe that Russia is helping to do so.

When asked which countries are more pro-Israel, 88% said the United States, while less than 2% said Russia.
