Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein issued a statement expressing “deep condolences” to the families of those killed in recent shelling across Ukraine. The attacks have injured civilians, including children. Marmorstein also wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.

It is important to note that such statements avoid directly identifying the aggressor. This is due to the fact that Israel takes a cautious position on the international stage, especially in relations with Russia. Israel tries to avoid aggravating relations with Russia, which supports its enemies in the Middle East, such as Iran and Hezbollah. Russia also plays a significant role in Syria, where Israel carries out operations against armed groups that threaten its security. Therefore, such caution in statements is not accidental and is dictated by the complexity of diplomatic ties.

It shows that Israel, although trying to avoid direct confrontation with Russia, does not remain indifferent to the tragedies that occur on Ukrainian soil. Israel also faces its own challenges related to terrorist threats and may see in the Ukrainian resistance an example of how the country is fighting for its right to exist. On the other hand, Israel cannot ignore its strategic cooperation with Russia in the Middle East, which explains the cautiousness in its statements.

Despite the absence of direct accusations against Russia, the support expressed by Israel has an important symbolic meaning.
