The White House has expressed hope that talks on a ceasefire in Gaza will continue, although there is no talk of ending the fighting. According to the Times of Israel and Barrons, John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said the meeting in Qatar was an encouraging start, although an agreement cannot be expected right now.
“There is still a lot of work ahead. Given the complexity of the deal, we do not expect to conclude these negotiations with an agreement today,” he stressed.
Kirby also noted that the obstacles that remain can be overcome.
He added:
“We need to see the release of hostages, help for Palestinian civilians in Gaza, security for Israel and a reduction in tensions in the region, and we need to see these things as soon as possible.”
Recall that former US President Trump discussed the hostage situation and the ceasefire in Gaza with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu ahead of an important round of talks in Doha.
