Senior US officials have backed the killing of Ibrahim Akkil by the Israeli army, calling it a fair move. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan praised the operation, saying it was the right outcome.
At a conference of the Israeli-American Council in Washington, Brett McGurk noted that the assassinated terrorist was responsible for the Beirut embassy attack 40 years ago. He stressed that there was no need to regret his elimination.
At the same time, McGurk expressed disagreement with Israel's strategy and discussed possible risks of escalation. He stressed the importance of a diplomatic settlement in the north and expressed hope that a full-scale war could be prevented.
