German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed dissatisfaction that the final declaration of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit did not indicate Russia's responsibility for military actions against Ukraine.

The German Chancellor was critical of the part of the declaration regarding the war in the Middle East, noting that Israel’s right to self-defense was not mentioned. He also pointed to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

“At the same time, it is becoming clear how much geopolitical tensions are affecting the G20,” Scholz said.

At the G20 summit, Scholz and Xi Jinping discussed the war in Ukraine. This became known on November 19, 2024.
