The first meeting on the draft 2025 state budget with Prime Minister Netanyahu took place on Thursday and did not yield any concrete decisions. Netanyahu did not express support for the proposed NIS 35 billion budget cuts, which caused the expected reaction.

At the meeting, the Finance Ministry's chief economist presented a new economic growth forecast. The forecast for Israel's economy for 2024 was reduced to 1.1%, and for 2025 to 4.4%, which was also reflected in the budget discussion.

Netanyahu is likely unwilling to support a budget that requires deep cuts and tax increases because of the government's poor reputation. The finance minister may have shifted the blame to Netanyahu to avoid being accused of producing a poor 2025 budget.
