Iran plans to return to nuclear talks at the UN General Assembly.

Iran is set to resume talks on its long-since-delayed nuclear deal with the West at a summit of world leaders in New York later this month. Iran has already spoken with the European Union's top diplomat Josep Borrell about resuming talks on its controversial nuclear program, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani.

According to Kanaani, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had a positive conversation with Borrell, in which they agreed that the UN General Assembly would provide them with a “good opportunity” to resume negotiations on the nuclear deal.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to address the United Nations General Assembly in late September, his first appearance at the annual gathering, amid military action by Iran-backed groups in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

Talks to revive a controversial nuclear deal struck between Iran and six world powers, including the US and the EU, in 2015 broke down more than two years ago under the rule of the late Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi.
