Civilian casualties in Ukraine since February 24, 2022 reached 36,357 people by the end of August 2024. Of these, 11,743 people were killed, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

At least 184 civilians were killed and 856 wounded in Ukraine in August 2024, making it the second-deadliest month of 2024 after July. Similar mass incidents involving civilians occurred in different regions of Ukraine, including Kostiantynivka and Kharkiv, as well as in daily attacks near the front lines, especially in the Donetsk region.

The UN noted Russia's large-scale attack on energy infrastructure across Ukraine on August 26, which caused severe damage and civilian casualties. It was the ninth wave of such attacks since early 2024.
