Judge Juan Merchan adjourned sentencing until a date has not been set. Donald Trump was found guilty in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. These payments were considered a precaution to prevent the disclosure of information about the actress's relationship with Trump. Trump himself denies all charges, claiming that the case is politically motivated.

The judge also delayed a decision on whether to apply presidential immunity in the case; Trump's lawyers argue that the evidence relates to actions he took as president and he is protected by official immunity. Prosecutors insist that the case concerns only personal conduct not related to official duties. The defense is asking to dismiss the charges, citing immunity and Trump's election victory. The Manhattan prosecutor said he has no plans to drop the charges.

Trump's case has already been delayed several times by defense motions, including an attempt to move the case to federal court. If the verdict is upheld, he faces up to four years in prison, but first-time offenders typically receive a lesser sentence. If the verdict is overturned, a new trial is possible, but this may happen after the end of Trump's presidential term.
