Retired General Yitzhak Brik notes that control of Hamas will be futile, given their numerous tunnels and reinforcements of young fighters. He criticizes Netanyahu for his promises not to end the war until Hamas is destroyed, calling it just a big scam.

The IDF cannot fully control the Netzarim Axis and the Philadelphia Corridor due to the tunnels through which Hamas continues to receive weapons and ammunition. Hamas tunnels also serve to move fighters and weapons of war to different areas.

The need to eliminate Hamas and rescue hostages in the tunnels conflicts with Netanyahu, who has eschewed large-scale operations in favor of short raids. Negotiations on the exchange are stuck due to Hamas' demands for a cessation of hostilities, which does not suit the Israeli prime minister.
