Yandex.Maps began blurring satellite images of Russian military airfields, as journalists found out. Images of the Diaghilevo airbase in Ryazan and the Borisoglebsk airfield in the Voronezh region, which were attacked by Ukrainian drones, turned out to be blurred. Satellite images of some joint airports used by civil aviation and the Russian Ministry of Defense were also retouched.
According to representatives of Yandex.Maps, different levels of detail of satellite images are determined by the requirements of regulators or data from suppliers. They did not specify the start of retouching of photographs of military facilities. At the same time, the Z-channel reported that Yandex.Maps publishes satellite images of Russian military installations without blurring, unlike foreign bases.
Researcher Matt Korda previously drew attention to the retouching of photographs of secret sites in Israel and Turkey on maps. Google Maps does not blur satellite images of military installations, but presents them in low resolution. Each user can compare information from two services and get an idea of the location of objects.
