Iran has the capability to launch a nuclear weapons program because it has enough nuclear fuel, according to U.S. intelligence, The Wall Street Journal reports. However, U.S. sources say there is no evidence that Iran has begun developing nuclear weapons, despite Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei possibly considering the idea.

A report submitted to Congress in July shows that Iran is taking steps that will increase its ability to create nuclear weapons in the future. Experts point to recent technical research that is expanding the country's knowledge in the area. Actual production of a weapon is not imminent at this point because of the research preparation period.
