Journalists Hromadske-UA have presented a documentary dedicated to Matitiaug (Anton) Samborsky, the adoptive son of the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman, who died in the summer of 2024 at the front.

“This film is not only about my son. He gave his life for Ukraine,” wrote Moshe Asman.

The film explores themes of faith, loss, and hope, illustrating how individuals continue to strive for the light even in the darkest of times.

We have previously reported on Matitiaug:

Matitiaug (Anton), the son of the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman, died at the front while defending Ukraine from Russian aggressors; a farewell ceremony will be held on September 12, 2024, at the central synagogue of Kyiv.

A petition to award the title of ‘Hero of Ukraine’ to the son of the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, who died in battles against Russian invaders, has already gained 20,000 votes.

Zelensky: “Today in Kyiv, we say goodbye to our warrior, the fallen Ukrainian defender, the son of the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman.”

Who is Matitiaug Samborsky?

Matitiaug was adopted in 2002 at the age of 11 years.

“I named him after the leader of the Maccabean uprising. He grew up to be a true warrior,” said Rabbi Asman.

In the spring of 2024, he became a father, but after just a week, he went to defend Ukraine.

“He had a family, but he understood that his duty was to protect the country.”

In July, he was stationed in the Pokrovsky direction where fierce battles were taking place.

“On July 17, we spoke on the phone, and on the 24th, I found out that he was gone.”

It was later confirmed that he died in battle.
