Donald Trump's plan calls for the creation of a “demilitarized zone” in Ukraine and the abandonment of NATO membership, Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance said on The Shawn Ryan Show.

Vance noted that the Trump administration plans to take a different approach to the conflict in Ukraine than Joe Biden has. He proposed holding talks with the Russians, Ukrainians, and Europeans on a peaceful settlement, including the creation of a demilitarized zone.

Vance claims the zone will be “heavily fortified” to prevent a possible Russian invasion. He also proposed preserving Ukraine’s independence in exchange for neutrality and abandoning NATO. Vance did not specify who would control the zone or how it would be structured.

The Biden administration's policy, Vance says, is to support Ukraine financially and hope for a military victory, which he does not think is likely. He also criticizes Europe for not funding enough aid to Ukraine, noting the generosity of American taxpayers.

U.S. support for Ukraine, Vance said, must be assessed to avoid the loss of American lives. His words reflect the differences between Biden's support for the military effort and Trump's proposal for a demilitarized zone.
