The department’s official page on the social network “X” published a post that American destroyers carried out Tomahawk missile strikes from the Red Sea against Houthi targets in Yemen. These missiles were aimed at command posts, production facilities and weapons depots.
U.S. officers said guided-missile destroyers from the Harry S. Truman carrier strike group fired Tomahawk missiles at Iranian-backed Houthi targets in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility on Dec. 31. At the same time, the Houthis continue to attack ships in the Red Sea, including attacking oil tankers.
Since the beginning of November 2023, the Houthi group has been attacking ships in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, which they control. In response to the Houthi attacks, the US launched Operation Prosperity Guardian to protect shipping in the region, recruiting other countries to cooperate.
The Houthis have repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea over the past year, injuring and killing sailors and damaging commercial shipping. This situation is of concern to the international community, including Israel, which has also been subject to Houthi rocket attacks.
At the same time, the Israeli ambassador to the UN warned the Houthis against further missile attacks, threatening them with the same fate as other organizations and regimes that have resisted Israel in the past. All this is happening amid tension and instability in the region, where fighting and conflicts continue.
