On September 18, 2024, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proposed by the Palestinian Authority, demanding that Israel comply with the decision of the International Court of Justice and leave the territory of the Palestinian Authority within one year. The resolution was supported by 124 states, 14 voted against, and 43 abstained from voting.
As one blogger wrote, “… it's cool that everyone whose opinion we don't give a shit about voted “for””.
“For” Russia, China, Azerbaijan, Belarus voted. “For” all of Israel's neighbors: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria. All other countries in the Middle East “For”: Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Türkiye, UAE, Bahrain, Oman.
Among the countries that supported the resolution were Greece, Cyprus And Francewhich Israel considers friendly states.

On September 18, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution initiated by the Palestinian delegation demanding that Israel “withdraw the IDF from the occupied territories, stop building settlements and allow the return of Palestinians to their land.”
The document also includes a call on countries around the world not to recognize Israel's legal presence in the “Palestinian territories,” to impose sanctions on Israeli officials, to stop arms supplies, and to refrain from opening diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.
The resolution, while not binding, carries political weight and could lead to the creation of UN mechanisms to monitor compliance with International Court rulings on Israeli withdrawal from Judea and Samaria. This could weaken international support for Israel and prompt some countries to impose an arms embargo.
Permanent Representative USA At the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield called for a vote against the resolution, noting that the US, as an ally of Israel, is “opposed to unilateral measures that undermine the two-state solution.”
