The United Nations calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to vaccinate 640,000 children against polio.
The World Health Organization has announced the need to vaccinate children with the oral nOPV2 vaccine, but without a humanitarian pause, this will be difficult. Two rounds of the vaccination campaign are planned – at the end of August and in September.
In the second half of July, the highly contagious polio virus was found in the enclave's wastewater. In response, the World Health Organization sent staff to collect water samples and conduct testing. On July 30, the Gaza Health Ministry declared a polio epidemic, linking it to Israel and the IDF.
