Ukrainian folk art comes to life in Israel!
Already on November 30, 2024, unique master classes will be held at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv (Yermiyahu St. 22) “Yavorivsky painting” And “Petrykivsky painting”. Organizer – initiative group “Ukrainian Health Banks in Israel” with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine.
These master classes are not just training in painting techniques, but an opportunity to get in touch with Ukrainian culture, create your own ethnic Christmas tree decoration and get in the festive mood!
What can participants expect?
1. “Yavorivsky painting of a wooden toy” (starts at 11:00)
- Participants will be able to choose wooden Christmas tree pendants to paint: a horse, a bird, a Christmas tree, a coat of arms or a map of Ukraine.
- Suitable for children from 6 years old and adults.
2. “Petrykivsky painting of a yalinka bag” (starts at 13:30)
- The master class includes hand training and painting a large Christmas tree decoration.
- Recommended for children over 10 years old and adults.
The price for participation in each master class is 80 shekels. The price includes all materials. After the lesson, each participant takes his toy home.
Important: The center's space is limited, so participation is only possible for those who have signed up without an accompanying person.
History of folk art: “Yavorivka” and “Petrykivka”
Ukrainian decorative art has centuries-old traditions that continue to inspire artists and craftsmen.
Yavorivsky painting
- It arose in the 18th century in the Yavorov district of the Lviv region.
- At first it was used to decorate wooden chests and toys.
- Characteristic elements: bright colors and natural motifs (flowers, leaves, birds).
Petrykivsky painting
- Named after the village of Petrikovka in the Dnepropetrovsk region, where it appeared at the end of the 19th century.
- This type of painting was included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage in 2013.
- The patterns are made in the form of floral ornaments, and the technique involves working even without brushes – using fingers or thin sticks.
Why is this important?
The art of folk painting carries within itself the soul of the Ukrainian people. The organizers of the event are confident: cultural ties between the Jewish and Ukrainian peoples are not only history, but also common values that continue to bring the two nations closer together.
“We strive to unite Israelis and Ukrainians, to show the richness of Ukrainian culture through creativity. This is especially important during the holiday season when new traditions are born.“- noted in “Ukrainian Health Banks in Israel”.
