Two days a year, Israel experiences large-scale meteor showers. The best place to observe them is the Dead Sea.

On August 11-13, 2024, Israel will see a meteor shower called the Perseids. The speed of some meteors will reach 60 km/s, and on the night of August 12 and 13, more than 100 meteors per hour are expected. This year, the moon will not interfere with observations, which will enhance the visual effect of the meteor shower.

For the best perception of the stream, it is necessary to choose a dark place, away from light sources. It is better to lie on your back and look straight into the sky. Special devices will not enhance the impression, since meteors fly very quickly across the entire sky.

The Perseids are a meteor shower created by the Earth's passage through the tail of a comet. Comet Swift-Tuttle, which last approached Earth in 1992, leaves behind dust particles that burn up in the atmosphere and create the appearance of “shooting stars,” leaving a glowing trail behind them.
