On 12 November 2024, it was announced that Besiktas would play their home match in Hungary. The match of the fifth round of the Europa League between Besiktas from Turkey and Maccabi of Israeli Tel Aviv will take place in Debrecen on Hungarian territory.
The Turkish club were given all the necessary permissions from UEFA to play the game at their home stadium in Istanbul, but due to fears of possible clashes between local pro-Palestinian activists and Israeli fans, local authorities decided to postpone the game.
Similar concerns arose following an incident during Maccabi's game against Ajax in Amsterdam on November 7, when masked men attacked Israeli fans. As a result, police detained 62 people.
News also reports that several thousand police will be guarding the France-Israel football match in Paris.
