President of Colombia Gustavo Petro participated in a pro-Palestinian rally in New York, held near the UN headquarters. The event took place on Friday and caused a serious reaction from the US authorities.
Visa Cancellation
Due to Petro’s actions, the US decided to cancel his visa. This information was reported by Reuters. Pre-trial measures were perceived as a response to the speech of the President of Colombia, who urged American soldiers not to follow Donald Trump’s orders.
According to the State Department’s message on social network X, “Petro’s visa is being canceled due to his reckless and provocative actions.”
Calls at the Rally
Speaking to a crowd of pro-Palestinian protesters, Petro proposed creating international armed forces with a focus on liberating Palestinians. “These forces must surpass the power of the United States,” noted the president.
He emphasized:
“From New York, I appeal to all soldiers of the US army: do not aim your weapons at civilians. Do not follow Trump’s orders. Follow the dictates of humanity.”
Criticism of Donald Trump
Petro, the first leftist president in Colombia’s history and an opponent of Israel’s militaristic policy, expressed criticism of Trump in his speech at the UN. He called the American leader an “accomplice in genocide” in Gaza and advocated for “criminal prosecution” in connection with US actions against ships in the Caribbean Sea that may be carrying drugs.
