The US attacked Houthi underground warehouses in Yemen where weapons and ammunition were stored

The US military carried out a strike on five underground weapons depots of the Houthis in Yemen. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Houthi facilities contained various components of weapons used to attack civilian and military targets in the region.

B-2 Spirit stealth bombers were involved in the operation, demonstrating the US ability to strike such targets at any time and anywhere. US President Joe Biden ordered the strikes to weaken the Houthis' military capabilities and protect US personnel in the critical waterway.

Austin noted that the United States will continue to show the Houthis that their aggressive actions will have consequences. Last month, Israel also struck Houthi targets in Yemen.

Yemen has been in a civil war since 2014 following the Houthi uprising. In the fall of 2023, the Houthis supported Hamas in the war with Israel and launched attacks across the country, then attacked civilian ships. In December, the United States announced the launch of a 10-nation operation to secure navigation in the Red Sea, and in January 2024 carried out a strike on Houthi targets in Yemen.

“We will continue to strengthen our defenses and maintain stability in the region,” the Pentagon chief stressed.
