The United States is calling on Turkey and other allies with ties to Iran to persuade Tehran to reduce tensions in the Middle East and not escalate, US Ambassador to Turkey Jeff Flake said, Reuters reports.

“We are asking all of our allies who have relationships with Iran to encourage them to de-escalate, including Turkey,” Flake told reporters.

He noted that the Ankara government was taking all necessary measures to prevent the situation from escalating. According to him, Turkish partners in Washington seem more confident than the Americans that Tehran will not escalate.
