The United States is providing nearly $157 million in humanitarian assistance for people in Lebanon and the region. These funds will be used to help internally displaced persons and refugees, as well as support their host communities.
These measures are designed to meet the needs of those who find themselves in difficult situations. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee Lebanon due to Israel's military operation against Hezbollah, with many fleeing to neighboring Syria.
Blinken stressed that humanitarian assistance will include food, shelter, blankets, hygiene kits, protective equipment, water and sanitation, which will be vital for those affected.
Israel launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon on October 1, and on October 4 launched 11 strikes against Hezbollah's southern base in Beirut. Blinken noted that assistance would also be provided to those fleeing to Syria.
