On September 14, 2024, the Ukrainian men's tennis team was defeated by the Israeli team in a match match of the First World Group of the 2024 Davis Cup.
The showdown began on Friday with two singles matches. Alexander Ovcharenko lost to Ishay Oliel 6-0, 4-6, 4-6, and Vitaliy Sachko lost to Daniel Tsukerman 2-6, 2-6. On Saturday, Alexey Krutykh and Ilya Beloborodko closed the gap by beating Tsukerman and Roy Stepanov in the doubles match 7-5, 7-6.
However, in the fourth match, Krutykh was defeated by Oliel with a score of 2:6, 6:3, 6:7.
In the Davis Cup 2024, Ukraine lost to Israel in the First World Group with a score of 1:3. This is the first defeat of Ukraine to Israel in the history of the Davis Cup, considering that the blue-yellows won the previous three matches. The defeat means that at the beginning of 2025, the Ukrainian team will fight to retain a place in the First World Group, the second most prestigious level in the Davis Cup structure.
