On August 28, 2024, the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel expressed gratitude to the Tel Aviv Municipality and its Mayor Ron Huldai for showing solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
On Ukraine's Independence Day, celebrated on August 24, the Tel Aviv City Hall building was illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
The embassy stressed that Ukraine and Israel must unite and demonstrate solidarity against the constant threats posed by the Axis of Evil, which seeks to harm and destroy both the Ukrainian and Jewish peoples in particular, and the educated Western world in general.
This gesture is important now because it underscores the need for unity between Ukraine and Israel in the face of common threats. Both peoples, Ukrainians and Jews, have historically faced attempts at extermination and suppression, and today they face new challenges from forces seeking to harm and destroy their cultures and values.
In a situation where the threat from the so-called “Axis of Evil” is growing, solidarity between the two nations and their common support for each other is vital. This unity not only symbolizes mutual respect, but also emphasizes the common struggle for freedom, democracy and security in the broad context of protecting Western values and way of life.
