The Steam platform has been criticized for supporting anti-Semitic games.

The American organization Anti-Defamation League accused the Steam platform of supporting intolerance towards Jews. In the latest report, ADL indicated that it had found more than one and a half million Steam user profiles containing extremist and anti-Semitic content.

The ADL named Pepe the Frog as the most common symbol of hate, which was recognized as an anti-Semitic symbol back in 2016. More than 54% of anti-Semitic profiles used Pepe the Frog in their content, while more obvious symbols such as the swastika and the imperial eagle were also identified.

ADL also found approximately 15,000 profiles with avatars depicting symbols of ISIS, Hezbollah and Hamas. This is not the first time Valve has faced accusations of normalizing extremist material on the Steam platform.

In 2018 and 2022, New Hampshire State Senator Maggie Hassen sent a letter to Valve executives expressing concern about the presence of users promoting neo-Nazi, racist and other hateful views.
