“Banning the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA or UNRWA) violates the conditions for Israel's admission to the UN,” argues Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
“UNRWA’s mandate is determined by UNGA resolution 302 (IV) and is valid until June 30, 2026. In 1949, Israel was admitted to the UN subject to the observance and implementation of two cornerstone UNGA resolutions – 181 with the Plan for the Partition of Palestine into two states (Jewish and Arabic) and 194 on Palestinian refugees under the care of UNRWA.
Thus, the adoption of these bills not only violates international law, including decisions of the UN General Assembly and the UN Charter, but also contradicts the conditions for Israel’s admission to the UN“.

Russia's desire to destabilize the Middle East
By supporting its allies in the region, Russia is actually participating in creating instability in the Middle East. Cooperation with Iran and their support for terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah indicate Russia's intention to develop an “axis of evil” and weaken the West and Israel. The threat of Israel's expulsion from the UN, at the same time, looks like an attempt to impose its “alternative justice” in the region.
“Under these conditions, UNRWA was the last “lifeline” for Palestinians in Gaza at the cost of its own sacrificesV. 237 employees were killed (many entire families), about 200 objects were destroyed, dozens of people were arbitrarily detained.
