The Hamas terror group has delayed its response to a US offer to free the hostages pending further clarification. According to the offer, the IDF should reduce its forces along the border and allow the Palestinians to operate the Rafah crossing.
The proposal also includes supervision of people moving to the northern Gaza Strip and the release of Palestinian prisoners. Discussions on a ceasefire and the reconstruction of Gaza would be postponed to the second phase of the agreement, with Israel reserving the right to resume military action.
Hamas believes that the proposal is inconsistent with previous agreements and allows Israel to continue military action. Additional meetings of the mediators are planned to amend the proposal, and until then Hamas is postponing its final response.
