Embassy of Israel in Kyiv expressed concern regarding “incidents of anti-Semitism” during Hanukkah celebrations in Ukraine, according to Israeli Ambassador Mikhail Brodsky.

“The Israeli Embassy in Kyiv expresses concern about a series of anti-Semitic incidents during the celebration of Hanukkah in Ukraine, as well as the increase in anti-Semitic comments on social networks.

We are grateful to Ukraine's law enforcement agencies for their prompt and effective response and ask that further action be taken against those who promote hatred and break the law.”

The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies for their quick response and asked them to act decisively against those who incite hatred and break the law.

In Lviv on January 1, an incident occurred when an unknown person damaged the Hanukkah menorah installed on the ruins of the synagogue. Investigators began criminal proceedings under Article 178 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding damage to religious buildings or places of worship.

The police identified and detained the attacker involved in this incident – a 19-year-old local resident who was intoxicated.
