Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Hamas political bureau, was killed in Tehran by an explosive device planted by Iranian security forces recruited by Israel, The Telegraph reported, citing its sources. Israel's Mossad recruited agents from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to plant explosives in a building where the Hamas leader was staying during his visit to Tehran.

Haniyeh was originally planned to be killed at the funeral of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, but the operation was called off due to the large crowd and fears of failure. Instead, two agents planted explosive devices in three rooms of an IRGC guesthouse where the Hamas leader was expected to stay. On the night of July 31, the explosives detonated while Haniyeh was in one of the rooms.

Iranian officials confirmed that Mossad recruited agents from the government protection unit in Tehran and also found explosives in two other rooms. Now, different sectors of the IRGC are blaming each other for the failures. The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas claimed the death of its leader Haniyeh, prompting Iran to threaten a “severe response” and raise a “red flag of revenge” at the Jamkaran mosque.

Thus, the operation to assassinate Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran was carried out by the Israeli Mossad with the help of recruited agents, which caused serious consequences and disputes between different sectors in the IRGC. These events took place in late July, when explosives exploded in one of the rooms where the Hamas leader was located.
