India does not enter into the conflict between Russia and Ukraine due to the complicated political situation with its neighbors and dependence on arms and oil supplies from Russia, Jagannath Panda reports in an interview for LIGA.net. India has problems with Pakistan and China and prefers to maintain good relations with Moscow because of this. India also needs Russia's support in the UN to balance with China.
Arms imports are important for India because of the legacy of the Soviet Union. India also depends on oil imports from Russia due to economic needs. However, India is trying to improve relations with other countries such as the EU.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that India can influence the end of the war if it refuses to buy oil from Russia.
