A parliamentary commission adopted a bill banning the activities of UNRWA in Israel due to the participation of employees in terrorist acts and the use of their resources by Hamas. Israeli officials will be prohibited from contacting UNRWA, and employees found involved in terrorism will face criminal investigations.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his concerns about the bill, saying its passage would lead to the demise of UNRWA. He said that if the law is adopted, the issue will be raised at the UN General Assembly.
Once the law takes effect, UNRWA and its employees will lose diplomatic immunity and tax benefits. Israel is cracking down on the organization's activities, hoping to prevent terrorist attacks and protect its citizens.
