The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced the start of work on the construction of a new fence along the border with Jordan. This project was initiated by the new Secretary of Defense Katz and involves strengthening the border with the installation of surveillance equipment. The work, costing tens of millions of shekels, will include soil surveys and a map of environmental hazards.
It is planned that the construction of the new fence will take several months and will be timed to coincide with the implementation of political decisions.
Currently, an old fence has already been built on the border with Jordan, sufficient to prevent the smuggling of weapons. However, the idea of strengthening this border or building a new wall has been discussed for a decade, but such projects are often hampered by enormous costs and difficulties.
As part of the strategy to combat terrorism, the Israeli Finance Minister expressed the view that it is necessary to occupy the Gaza Strip and halve its population. He called on the IDF to take responsibility for security in the region and destroy Hamas.
Such statements provoke discussion of government strategies for ensuring border security and combating threats.
