December 25, 2024, the day the holiday of Hanukkah begins, The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine congratulated all military personnel of the Ukrainian army who are confessors and confessors of Judaism and all colleagues from the Armed Forces of the State of Israel – the IDF.
The Military Chaplaincy Service of the Ukrainian Armed Forces published an official congratulations on Hanukkah:
“These days, Jews all over the world light Hanukkiah candles, celebrating the victory of light over darkness, spiritual freedom over oppression, faith over despondency.
Hanukkah reminds us of the miracle that is made possible by the resilience, courage and unity of people in the fight for their beliefs and values.
This bright holiday proves that in the darkest times, even a small flame of hope can light the path and inspire great achievements.
In the modern world, the symbolic light of Hanukkah is especially important, reminding us of the importance of tolerance, mutual respect and solidarity between peoples.”
The Armed Forces of Ukraine wished that the illuminated light of Hanukkah would bring peace, joy and blessing to the homes of everyone celebrating.

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kirill Budanov, also took part in the ceremony of lighting the first Hanukkah candle with one of the Jewish communities in Kyiv.
In Kyiv, on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, the ceremony of lighting the first Hanukkah candle took place, organized by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine. The ceremony took place with the participation of the Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky, mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and rabbi
Rafael Rutman. Ukrainian serviceman Tamir Elboim, a member of the Jewish community, received the right to light the first candle on Hanukkiah.
