On September 15, 2025, during the Emmy Awards ceremony, celebrities used this platform to express their opinions about the conflict in Gaza, where Israel is at war with Hamas.
The Emmy Ceremony as a Platform for Protest
Actors Mark Indelicato, Chris Perfetti, Hannah Einbinder, stars of the series “The White Lotus” Aimee Lou Wood and Natasha Rothwell, as well as Ruth Negga wore Artists4Ceasefire badges (Artists for a Ceasefire in Gaza). Comedian Megan Stalter arrived with a bag that read Cease Fire.
Stage Speeches
The badge symbolizes a call for the US government to advocate for “immediate de-escalation and a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel to prevent further casualties.” Upon receiving the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress, Hannah Einbinder also called for the liberation of Palestine. She noted that this is a topic close to her heart, especially considering her connections with friends working as doctors in Gaza.
“I know people who work in conflict conditions, caring for the sick and educating children in refugee camps. This is an issue that deeply touches me,”
— noted Einbinder, clarifying her position as a Jew sharing her cultural identity and the state actions of Israel.
The Voice of Celebrities
Javier Bardem, a Spanish actor nominated for an Emmy for his role in the film “Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez,” also stated his position at the ceremony, wearing a keffiyeh — a traditional Arab headscarf. In an interview, he emphasized that he condemns actions that justify genocide.
“I am here to condemn the genocide in Gaza. It is important to understand that it is disgraceful when violence is accepted as a normal occurrence,” — stated Bardem,
mentioning the International Association of Genocide Scholars. He called for a commercial blockade of Israel and the imposition of sanctions to stop the ongoing atrocities.
The Collective Position of Filmmakers
On the eve of the event, 3,900 representatives of the film industry signed an open letter calling for a boycott of Israeli institutions that they believe are involved in crimes against the Palestinian people. This action was a response to widespread outrage in the industry regarding the ongoing conflict.
