Exclusive footage from sources «Kyiv Post” shows how the special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR) carried out a complex operation to strike a Russian airbase in Syria, destroying military equipment.
This happened on July 25, the day after the meeting between Putin and Assad on July 24, 2024.
Source UNIAN Ukrainian intelligence confirmed that such a strike had indeed taken place. “We can confirm the information, it is correct,” the source noted.
According to Kyiv Post sources in the intelligence agency, the Khimik group carried out another complex attack on Russian positions in Syria in late July 2024. The target of the attack was Russian military equipment at the Kuweires airbase, located east of Aleppo and occupied by Russian forces.
The Kyiv Post published videos showing key moments of the attack: first, a Russian mobile electronic warfare system is destroyed, then drones attack Russian military facilities at the airbase itself. The strike reportedly came a day after Russian President Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met in the Kremlin on Wednesday, July 24.
The Kuweires airbase is under Russian control and has been used for military purposes since 2015. Ukrainian intelligence tells the Kyiv Post that the base has also been used to train and transport foreign mercenaries for the war in Ukraine.

Kyiv Post reported that in early June, Ukrainian special forces attacked enemy checkpoints, fortifications, patrols and military convoys in the Golan Heights in Syria. According to a source in the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), since the beginning of the year, rebels, backed by Ukrainian fighters, have carried out numerous strikes on Russian military installations in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Russia’s 2015 intervention in Syria to prop up President Assad’s regime resulted in the permanent deployment of thousands of Russian troops there. Last fall, Moscow moved some of its troops and equipment from Syria to the battlefield in Ukraine, making its forces in Syria more vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks.
Russia has set up numerous recruitment centres in the region for Syrian mercenaries to fight in Ukraine. Recruitment is carried out by the Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides and Management of Refugee Movements at the Russian-occupied Khmeimim airbase. There, mercenaries receive Russian passports and are incorporated into the Russian armed forces.
In May 2023, the head of the GUR, Lieutenant General Kirill Budanov, promised to “destroy Russian war criminals anywhere in the world.”
