Stamp in honor of the Rebbe from Ukrposhta”Ukrposhta held a ceremonial special cancellation of a collectible stamp in honor of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and the Chabad movement, said JCC BEIT Menachem KYIV .
The event, which took place in the main post office building, was attended by Chief Rabbi of Kyiv Yonatan Markovich, Head of the Philatelic Products Department of JSC Ukrposhta Natalia Mukhina and Simon Huang, representative of the US Embassy in Ukraine (Political Department).
The stamp depicts the famous 770 building in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York (the headquarters of the Chabad movement). Instead of windows, the building features books by the seven Lubavitcher Rebbes — the stamp is called “Seven Lights.”
Jews are the People of the Book. And the books of the leaders of the Chabad movement (from the book of the First Lubavitcher Rebbe Shneur Zalman “Tanya” to the book of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson “Likutei Sichot”) are real spiritual lights illuminating the path of generations of the Jewish people.
Diplomat Simon Huang emphasized that the legacy of the Lubavitcher Rebbe is of great importance for the modern United States and Ukraine, and the issuance of the stamp is a sign of the strength of the ties between our countries.
“The release of the “Seven Lights” stamp, initiated by the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv, Jonathan Markovich, is another manifestation of Ukrainian tolerance, a sign of refutation of anti-Semitic stereotypes and a step in strengthening the friendship of Ukrainians and Jews in the independent Ukrainian state,” said Natalia Mukhina.
Philatelists can order a new stamp at the office of the “Own Stamp” project (in the Main Post Office building).
“We hold the keys to our freedom, and we use them to lock ourselves in.”. These words belong to Rebbe Lubovitsky, one of the most prominent Jewish spiritual leaders of the 20th century. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the thinker's death, a solemn ceremony of cancellation of a collector's stamp was held in the Main Post Office building in Kyiv, Ukraine.
