The Prosecutor General's Office noted that a number of countries in Africa and Asia are at risk due to shelling by the Russian Federation. Losses from the misappropriation of Ukrainian grain exceed 30 billion hryvnia, but these figures are not final, as noted by Yuriy Belousov, Head of the Department for Combating Crimes in Armed Conflict in the Prosecutor General's Office. Russia uses various weapons to attack Ukraine's agro-industrial infrastructure.
According to Belousov, Russia is effectively blackmailing the world community with the possibility of creating famine in other countries. Due to the shelling of grain and port infrastructure, countries in Africa and Asia that received Ukrainian grain are at risk. Ukraine was and remains one of the main suppliers of the World Food Program. “We have identified two periods of Russia's attacks on agro-industrial infrastructure related to the 'grain deal,'” Belousov emphasized.
He also noted that after Ukraine abandoned the threats from the aggressor country, the scale of the strikes increased. Russia began using various weapons, including Shaheds, Iskanders and missiles. “This indicates a well-coordinated policy by Russia, with various types of troops involved in the attacks,” the representative of the Prosecutor General's Office noted.
Russia is trying to deprive Ukrainians of their livelihood by stealing grain and destroying it. “The scale of such crimes suggests a crime against humanity and genocide, associated with creating conditions for the physical destruction of a nation,” Belousov added. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Russia is trading in stolen Ukrainian grain through companies linked to Iran and Syria, as well as the UAE.
Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmitry Pletenchuk noted that Ukrainian grain is exported to Russian ports and then sold as its own. International carriers are also involved in the illegal business.
