Hummus is the product that began the story of the taste bridge between Ukraine and the Middle East. Now this bridge is under attack.
A Russian missile hit the factory of the Yofi company, located in Kyiv. The enterprise temporarily halted production, but most importantly, people survived. According to representatives of GoodFoods Company, employees left the premises twenty minutes before the explosion.
The Brand That Made Hummus Familiar
When Yofi appeared in 2010, Ukrainians were just getting acquainted with this product. Today, the brand occupies about 70% of the market, and the annual production volume reaches 1200 tons.
Its packages can be found in almost every network — Silpo, Auchan, Metro, Novus, ATB. Hummus has ceased to be something exotic — it has become part of the everyday diet, and Yofi has turned into a symbol of modern plant-based cuisine.
According to Forbes Ukraine, in 2023, the company earned over 110 million UAH. For the domestic market, this is not just a business, but an example of how a niche product turns into a mass one.
The People Behind the Brand
GoodFoods Company is a Ukrainian company founded by three entrepreneurs: Oleh Heyler, Ihor Buchatskyi, and Andriy Vyshnevskyi. They did not create a trendy project; they built a system — with their own recipes, logistics, and quality that withstands competition even in wartime conditions.
Why the Name Yofi Became a Sign of Trust
The word Yofi comes from the Hebrew “yofi” — “wonderful” or “excellent”. Short, friendly, international.
It’s not just a play on words: the brand was initially conceived as open and positive. It has no political undertones, but it does have a simple idea — good food should be understandable to everyone.
The company emphasizes that it is not associated with foreign brands using similar names. Yofi is a completely Ukrainian project, inspired by universal principles of taste and quality.
Yofi Assortment: Middle Eastern Flavor Created in Ukraine
The Yofi line includes the entire palette of Middle Eastern flavors, adapted to Ukrainian culinary culture.
Each product is a separate story, but they are all united by one principle: naturalness, freshness, and simplicity of composition.
The brand’s main position is Classic Hummus.
It remains the standard of taste: tender chickpea texture, balanced tahini, a bit of lemon and garlic.
Then the variations begin, where Yofi reveals its character:
Mushroom Hummus — soft, with a light creamy hint.
Spicy Pepper Hummus — rich and spicy, for those who love heat.
Olive Hummus — classic Mediterranean taste, with pieces of green and black olives.
Sun-Dried Tomato and Basil Hummus — aromatic, with Italian notes.
Fried Onion Hummus — warm, slightly sweet taste, perfect for sandwiches.
Tuscan Garden Hummus — a mix of vegetables, herbs, and peppers in a light creamy base.
BBQ Hummus — smoky grill flavor and barbecue spices.
Truffle Sauce Hummus — delicate aroma and thick texture for gourmets.
Paprika Hummus — soft, but with character, with a sweet pepper note.
Avocado Hummus — fresh and nutritious, with natural avocado puree.
In addition to hummus, the brand also produces other Middle Eastern snacks:
Baba Ganoush — traditional paste of roasted eggplants with tahini and lemon.
Falafel — fried chickpea balls, ready to serve.
Most products are released in 250-gram packaging, and some in a mini format of 110 grams.
Shelf life — up to 45 days at a temperature of +2…+6 °C.
Each item in the Yofi line meets European quality standards, and the recipes were created based on a combination of Ukrainian and Middle Eastern traditions.

What Is Known About the Damage
As a result of the attack, part of the production lines was damaged. The factory building sustained visible damage, and the power supply was temporarily disrupted.
The enterprise halted product release, but GoodFoods Company has already begun restoration work. According to preliminary estimates, supplies may resume within a month.
All employees remained on staff. The company reported that it does not plan layoffs and is preparing backup solutions to maintain production.
When a Blow to Business Becomes a Blow to Everyday Life
The Yofi factory is not a military target. It is a civilian production that supplies thousands of stores with products that have become part of Ukrainian life.
Economists note: such shelling hits not only infrastructure but also trust — in the market, in logistics, in the sense of normalcy. Yofi, like dozens of other Ukrainian companies, is restoring work even when sirens are sounding around.
Between Haifa and Kyiv — A Shared Breath
Although Yofi is a Ukrainian company, its history is unthinkable without Middle Eastern motifs. The product itself, the philosophy of taste, even the packaging design carry an element of cultural dialogue.
Part of the equipment was purchased from Italian and Israeli manufacturers. That is why the brand became an example of how Ukrainian energy connects with the Israeli approach to gastronomy — honest, simple, warm.
What’s Next
GoodFoods Company confirmed: restoring the factory is a priority for the coming weeks. After checking the lines and repairing the premises, production will resume.
The company plans to maintain the assortment and pricing policy to retain consumer trust. Yofi remains the leader of the segment and an example of how Ukrainian business can survive even when walls are collapsing.
