On August 18, 2024, the Palestinian Authority leadership began preparing for Chairman Abu Mazen's visit to the Gaza Strip, which he announced during a speech in the Turkish parliament. However, Israel did not grant permission for this visit. An Israeli source confirmed that Abu Mazen will not be allowed to go to Gaza.
The Palestinians have appealed to the international community for support in organizing the visit. They are counting on the assistance of the UN, the EU, the African Union, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This demonstrates that the PA leadership is working to restore national unity.
However, even Palestinian sources say that choosing and agreeing on a date for the visit could take a long time due to the ongoing conflict between Fatah and Hamas. In a speech to the Turkish parliament, Abu Mazen accused Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing of Gaza” and said he would go to Gaza even if it cost him his life.
