“I am sure that these emotions and testimonies will not remain with him personally. Pastor Burns is a person who can be heard where big decisions are made. And I believe that the voice of truth from Ukraine will reach the very heart of the new American leadership.”
On the 3rd anniversary of the liberation of Bucha from Russian occupiers, on March 31, 2025, spiritual advisor to US President Donald Trump, Pastor Mark Burns visited Bucha, Irpin, and Borodyanka.
Together with the head of the Ukrainian Jewish community, the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman, he witnessed the consequences of Russian aggression. These visits received widespread coverage in international media and became an important testimony of the war crimes committed by Russia.
Pastor Mark Burns’ Visit: A Key Meeting for the World
Pastor Burns arrived in Ukraine at the invitation of Moshe Reuven Asman, the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine. It is important to note that Burns is one of the significant figures in the political and religious circles of the United States. His voice plays an important role in shaping US policy and in matters of international security.
Moshe Asman reported on the visit:
“At my invitation, a special guest arrived in Ukraine — Pastor Mark Burns, personal spiritual advisor to President Donald Trump. He is a well-known figure in religious and political circles in the United States, whose voice today holds weight in shaping the new strategy and policy of America.
First and foremost, Pastor Burns and I went to Bucha, Irpin, and Borodyanka — so that he could see firsthand the consequences of the Russian army’s crimes against the peaceful population of Ukraine, as well as personally hear the testimonies of eyewitnesses who survived this terrible occupation…
What he saw deeply shocked him — he did not hide his pain, outrage, and sincere sympathy.
I am sure that these emotions and testimonies will not remain with him personally. Pastor Burns is a person who has the opportunity to be heard where important decisions are made. And I believe that the voice of truth from Ukraine will reach the very heart of the new American leadership.
But this was just our first stop. There will be more!”
Bucha and the Consequences of Russian Occupation
March 31, 2025 — the third anniversary of the liberation of Bucha from Russian occupiers. The city, which became a symbol of Russia’s war crimes, was under enemy occupation for 33 days. During this time, the Russians carried out a mass slaughter — it is known that 561 civilians died.
The images that were revealed to the Ukrainian military after entering Bucha in the spring of 2022 and spread across the world’s media shocked both Ukrainian society and the entire civilized world. Scenes of mass shootings, mass graves…
Unfortunately, this was just the beginning. Only in the Bucha district of Kyiv region did law enforcement record over 9,000 war crimes. More than 1,700 civilians were killed. Bucha became a symbol, but there were also Borodyanka, Hostomel, Irpin…
“They came to kill us all”, said those who personally saw the consequences of the massacre in Kyiv region. It was in those spring days that it became clear: Ukraine will fight to the end. One hopes that all those involved in these horrific crimes will face justice. And if international legal institutions, on which there is less and less hope, cannot act, then justice will sooner or later be restored by the Ukrainians themselves.
Moshe Asman noted that the goal of the visit was to show Pastor Mark Burns the consequences of these crimes. He also wanted Burns to personally hear the stories of survivors who went through these tragic events. Pastor Burns’ visit became an important step in strengthening international support for Ukraine and in the search for truth on the global stage.
Quote from Moshe Asman:
“I believe that the voice of truth from Ukraine will reach the very heart of the new American leadership.”
Borodyanka and Irpin: Even More Destruction
During the visit, Pastor Mark Burns also visited Borodyanka and Irpin, two other cities in Kyiv region that also became victims of Russian attacks. In these cities, the destruction and signs of violence speak of the cruelty of the Russian army. Flowers were laid at the destruction sites, and solemn ceremonies were held, in which local authorities and residents participated.
Impact on International Politics
Pastor Mark Burns, as one of Donald Trump’s closest advisors, has a significant influence on international politics.
His personal testimony about what is happening in Ukraine will now become part of the important dialogue about international justice and truth. Despite all the difficulties and political manipulations, Burns is confident that the truth must be heard at the highest levels. His voice holds great importance in the context of shaping a new international strategy and US policy.
The Role of the Jewish Community in the Conflict
It is very important that this visit included the Jewish community of Ukraine, represented by the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman. For Jews, as for other peoples of Ukraine, the memory of the tragedies of war and the support of justice are of key importance. This visit is also important for the Jewish diaspora worldwide, including the Jewish community in Israel, which is actively following the developments in Ukraine.
