Nine smuggling tunnels were discovered and blocked in the Philadelphi Corridor, and they are scheduled to be destroyed in the next 48 hours. This information was confirmed by the IDF Spokesperson's Office. After about 4 months of operations by the 162nd Division in Rafah, the operation to eliminate the Hamas brigade in the area has been completed.
The active destruction involved 203 underground sections in Rafah and the Philadelphi Axis, of which 9 tunnels crossed the border with Egypt. The IDF reported that all discovered tunnels leading to Egypt were either blocked or destroyed, preventing terrorists from penetrating further. Most of the underground sections in the area have already been completely destroyed.
Future plans include the complete destruction of all tunnels in the Philadelphi Axis area within 48 hours of the decision, while the destruction of the Rafah tunnels could take about three weeks. Smuggling tunnels in the area were blocked before and after Mohamed Morsi came to power in Gaza, facilitating the establishment of a defense infrastructure there.
