The morning explosion of a Russian missile in the center of Lviv (Ukraine) on September 4, 2024, on Brativ Mikhnovskikh Street, destroyed the windows of the synagogue on this street. The missile exploded in a residential area just a hundred meters from the synagogue with stunning frescoes.
“There are no military facilities around. The Nazis failed to destroy this synagogue, turning it into a stable. Now the army of Putin, the famous “denazifier”, continues Hitler's work.”
About this told by Shimon Briman in UJE.
Rabbi Mordechai Shlomo Bold's apartment is located just seventy meters from the blast site. All the windows in his home were shattered. Rabbi Bold was buying medicine for his children in the destroyed pharmacy. Fortunately, his family was at his son's bar mitzvah in Israel at the time, and the rabbi himself urgently flew to New York to visit his sick father in the hospital.
Rabbi Mordechai told the author that if his children had been at home during the explosion, they could have been injured by shards of glass.
“There are no military facilities around. The Nazis failed to destroy this synagogue, turning it into a stable. Now the army of Putin, a well-known “denazifier”, continues Hitler's work,” Briman emphasizes.
This, according to the author, is โsimply missile terror for the sake of terror, senseless and merciless, like much else in the criminal system of Putinโs Russia.โ
“And the world is silent” โ Briman states.

Synagogue of the Tsori Gilod Society (Hebrew: ืฆืจื ืืืขืโ, “Fragrances of Gilead”) is a synagogue in Lviv on Brativ Mikhnovskyh Street. It was returned to the Jewish community in 1989, and representatives of the Karlin Hasidic movement who arrived to manage the religious community began to call the synagogue “Beis Aharon ve-Isroel” (“House of Aaron and Israel”), but for Lviv residents it remained known by its historical name – “Tsori Gilod”.
In 1897, Moses Grifel built a one-story building on a plot of land between Bratiev Mikhnovsky and Khotinskaya Streets. In 1912, it was purchased by the Tsori Gilod (Hebrew: ืฆืจื ืืืขืโ, “Balm of Gilead”) society, founded in 1899 by Rabbi Joachim Gutman. The premises were adapted for use as a house of prayer. Having received permission from the magistrate, in 1923-1925 the society built a new synagogue based on a design by Albert Kornbluth. During the Soviet era, the building was used as a warehouse. In 1989, the synagogue was handed over to the Jewish community. Under Rabbi Avrum Rosenthal, a yeshiva operated at the synagogue, headed by Chaim Golubitsky. Renovations were carried out in 1990-1991. The synagogue annex, which housed the matzah making machine, was converted into a dormitory for the yeshiva, a kosher kitchen, a mikvah, and a guest room.
The interior contains some of the few synagogue paintings in Ukraine, created by Maximilian Kugel.
The building is rectangular in plan, consists of a prayer hall 14.2×14 m and auxiliary rooms. Nearby, on the side of Bratyev Mikhnovskikh Street, there is a courtyard. The eastern facade forms a single line with the buildings of Khotynska Street. Both facades have high windows with semicircular ends. A lantern is installed in the false vault (now covered). Two-tiered galleries are installed in the interior.
