On August 7, 2024 at 10:22 p.m., French President Emmanuel Macron called on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to avoid the “logic of revenge” following the assassination of the Hamas leader.

Macron also stressed the need to do everything possible to prevent a new military escalation in the Middle East.
“A new military escalation would not be in the interests of anyone, including Iran, and would disrupt regional stability for a long time,” the French president noted.
“Iran must also commit to calling on the destabilizing actors it backs to exercise restraint in order to avoid conflict,” he added.
