Local councils in the north have been hit with budget cuts, which were already tight.

Northern local council leaders are angry that the government is cutting budgets just three months after the funds were allocated. The finance minister's plans to increase military spending have sparked protests because they contradict the views of financial officials and require further consideration.

Part of the sum was offered to finance the evacuation and will be returned after the budget law for 2024 is amended. However, this will come at the expense of cutting northern development programs, including the creation of a university and the renovation of cities. Many council heads doubt that the money will be returned and regard the actions of the Finance Ministry as a “theatre of the absurd.”

In response to the situation, local council leaders have declared a boycott of government officials until the problems of the northern border residents are fully resolved. They demand guarantees for the safety of evacuees and approval of an economic recovery plan. In protest, they have stopped all communication with government officials and declared their readiness to deal with the problems themselves.
