The leader of the Iranian regime, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered a retaliatory strike against Israel. The corresponding decree was transmitted to Iran's Supreme National Security Council on October 28, as reported by the NYT. The newspaper cites sources who reported plans to strike dozens of military targets in Israel.
The attack is planned to be carried out after the US presidential election to prevent Republican candidate Donald Trump from exploiting the situation in the election race. The order from Khamenei followed an analysis of the consequences of the Israeli attack on Iran, which damaged air defense systems and ballistic missile production.
The Israeli military managed to launch a series of attacks on targets in Iran on October 26 – military bases and an IRGC command post near Tehran were attacked. They said they were responding to Iranian attacks on Israeli territory. The media reported the defeat of all four S-300 air defense systems in Iran, as well as a possible strike on a base near Tehran where explosives could be tested to create nuclear weapons.
