Iranian state media reports that Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will travel to Tehran on August 4, 2024, on a rare visit amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel.
Safadi and Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri Kani have held two phone calls in the past two days to discuss developments in the Middle East following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, the Palestinian group, in Tehran. The US and EU have designated Hamas as a terrorist organization.
Safadi's trip will be the first visit by a Jordanian foreign minister to Iran since March 2015.
