Several Ukrainian families whose relatives saved Jews during World War II and received the title of Righteous Among the Nations received portable generators from the State of Israel. On November 3, 2025, this was reported by Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky and some Israeli publications, including B’Hadrei Haredim – one of the largest and most well-known publications in Israel’s ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) community.
The transfer took place with the participation of:
The Embassy of Israel in Ukraine
the Israeli international cooperation program MASHAV
the Ukrainian charitable foundation “V-Tebe” (Bishvilcha)
Support in Winter Conditions and Energy Attacks
The generators provided are intended for household use and to assist families during winter power outages caused by Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky noted that Israel continues to support Ukrainians, including those whose families showed courage and saved Jews during the Holocaust.
“Several families of the Righteous Among the Nations received mobile generators as a gift from the embassy. Due to attacks on energy infrastructure, many regions of Ukraine are experiencing electricity problems. Mobile generators will help the families of the Righteous survive the winter.”
Russia — Aggressor and Source of Energy Terrorism
The transfer of generators to Ukrainian righteous families occurs against the backdrop of ongoing aggression and targeted Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian missiles and drones have systematically targeted energy facilities, substations, and residential areas of Ukrainian cities.
These strikes lead to widespread outages of electricity, heat, and water, which is especially dangerous in winter. International organizations and Western governments have repeatedly called such actions a war crime and energy terrorism against the civilian population.
Supporting Ukrainian righteous families in this situation is both a humanitarian step and a signal:
the memory of saved lives and respect for those who protected people from evil remain above attempts to destroy and intimidate.
What is MASHAV
MASHAV is the Department of International Cooperation of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is involved in:
humanitarian missions
development programs
training specialists from different countries
delivering critical aid to crisis zones
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, MASHAV has coordinated the delivery of humanitarian equipment, including medical supplies, first aid, and energy support.
What is “V-Tebe” (Bishvilcha)
“V-Tebe” (Bishvilcha) (All-Ukrainian Charitable Foundation “For You”) is a Ukrainian charitable foundation working in the field of assistance to families, vulnerable people, and social projects.
The organization cooperates with international partners, including Israel, and participates in the distribution of humanitarian aid within Ukraine.
Context: Israel Continues to Support Ukraine
Since the beginning of the war, Israel has supplied:
equipment for power supply systems
medical kits
civil protection means
field hospitals and equipment
(including the operation of the Israeli field hospital “Kohav Meir” in the Lviv region)
Damage to Embassy Staff Member’s Home
The publication also recalled that earlier the home of an Israeli embassy staff member was damaged as a result of a Russian strike on Kyiv, after which the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Memory and Gratitude, Supported by Action
The transfer of generators to righteous families is a gesture combining historical memory and practical assistance.
It is a reminder of the support between Israel and Ukraine and respect for those who saved human lives in the darkest times.
Righteous Among the Nations in Ukraine: Who They Are
Righteous Among the Nations is a title awarded by the State of Israel through the Yad Vashem Memorial Institute to non-Jews who saved Jews during World War II, risking their own lives.
Ukraine is one of the countries where the number of rescuers was significant.
According to Yad Vashem, Ukraine is among the leaders in the number of Righteous. More than 2,700 people from different regions of Ukraine have received this title — among them representatives of various professions, ages, and faiths.
These people:
hid Jewish children and families
helped obtain forged documents
transported through dangerous zones
shared food and shelter
rescued the wounded
were often subjected to persecution
many of them died for their actions
Among the Righteous are entire families, individual clergy, doctors, teachers, peasants, workers — people who decided to help under conditions of mortal risk.
Recognition is awarded after checking archives, testimonies of those rescued, documents, and historical materials. The Righteous receive a medal and an honorary diploma, and their names are immortalized on the Wall of Honor at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
